FOSSETCON 2014!

Recently I had my first awesome trip to a Free Open Source Software (FOSS) Conference thanks to the awesome project LibreOffice for paying for the room for I and Robinson Tryon.

The first day was a fantastic start for the Con with it being UbuCon. I thought it would be fitting for me to wear my Trusty Tahr t-shirt. The first part of UbuCon started off with Michael Hall walking us though how to make our first Ubuntu Application (app). Just on the first session my eyes were opened to the wonderful Ubuntu SDK (based on Qt Creator so big shout out to the Qt developers!). I was very interested in following along but sadly as this was my first event and trip on my own I was worried about taking my notebook.

After our fantastic lunch the next great session was with Elizabeth Krumbach Joseph and Nocholas Skaggs talking about how to get involved with the awesome Ubuntu Community. The combined each of their 5 ways to get contribute to the Ubuntu project as a whole whether it be developer, documentation, translations, artwork.

I was with Robinson Tryon rocking at the LibreOffice booth handing out booklets, pens and some awesome stickers to everyone mostly on the second and third days.

I also checked out Michael Schultheiss’s cool session about SteamOS.

Then there was the awesome after party with great food, great beer and great people having some fun and talking. The next morning I was on my way back home with tons of great experiences that I would do again in a heartbeat.
